Fredensborg is surrounded by beautiful countryside, with many cycle routes and walking trails available.
Esrum Sø, Denmark's second largest lake with its unique natural habitat, is nearby. There are many sporting facilities, especially for golf.
The Louisiana Museum of Modern Art with its world class Modern Art collection, and the UNECSO World Heritage site of Kronborg Castle are easily reached. The unique housing development Fredensborghusene, designed by Jørn Utzon, architect of Sydney Opera House, is in nearby Helsingør. At Frederiksborg Palace the family shields of recipients of the country's royal orders are displayed on the walls of the church. Frederiksborg also houses the Danish National Portraits Museum.
