Höxter and Sudbury have been twinned since 1980. Personal and family friendships have matured across two and even three generations.
A news item from the German Press regarding the 40 year anniversary of links between Sudbury and Höxter to be celebrated in 2020.
Höxter is situated in the heart of Weserbergland, eastern Nord-Rhein Westphalia, on the left banks of the River Weser. It is an important regional centre for business, industry, education and culture. It is 52 km north of Kassel in the centre of the Weser Uplands. The main town's population is around 15,000, and with outlying centres, about 30,000.
The elegant timbered town houses, the shopping areas and open spaces offer excellent opportunities for leisure and sightseeing. The Huxori Market, held every September, offers a lively and colourful showcase for the town.
We look forward to hosting our German friends again in September 2018.
Höxter has been chosen to host the 2023 Landesgartenschau. This major horticultural and artistic event showcases the entire town, and attracts visitors from across Germany and Europe.
Twinning achievements include
School exchanges involving many students and teachers over more than thirty years
